BMW Vision Next 100 Concept

The BMW Vision Next 100 Concept vehicle offers overwhelming proof of how tomorrow’s mobility will become a fundamental human need. Apparently, the future’s mobility will continue to become a highly emotional experience. The BMW Vision Next Concept is inclined to the needs of a driver courtesy of its revolutionary Alive Geometry. The BMW has envisioned a car that enhances safety, delivers more comfort and state-of-the-art mobility. It is a self-driving concept with a mode that allows the chauffeur to take absolute control. While no scientist, economic strategist or politician can predict the next 100 years, the BMW has serious forecasts that extrapolate extensive factors and figures into the future. The automaker exploited these projections to create a view of tomorrow’s world, which is the foundation for BMW Vision Next 100.

BMW Vision Next 100 – Futuristic Design

Like most concept cars built to celebrate the future, the BMW Vision Next 100 employs a somewhat wild design that is radically different from the ones seen on previous BMWs lineup. It is a sporty-looking sedan that highlights the typical size of a 5 series.

It wears a sculpted body shell with muscular fenders that are shaped around the wheels. These particular areas are made out of a flexible material that consists of triangular scales, which twist and stretch as the front wheels turn. The BMW Vision Next 100 is aimed at creating a concept that delivers the emotional driving experience. That is why the overall concept is informed by emotional design.

Exterior Features

The body configuration of the BMW Vision Next 100 is significantly different from most current vehicles. It boasts considerably shorter overhangs, and the windscreen extends into the front hood to create a canopy-like cockpit section.

The horizontal headlamps will be substituted with twin, vertical-oriented LED strips. Its tail lights feature the 3D design that is reminiscent of 1950s Detroit designs. What’s more interesting is the decklid shape, which borrows a host of design cues from the Bangle Butt 6 Series coupe.

The doors make at least half of the concept’s profile and highlight the butterfly door design. These types of doors are usually seen on supercars but not family vehicles. They make for easier entry and exit. Overall, the BMW Vision Next 100 employs numerous solutions that are not likely to make it to the production anytime soon.

Interior and Tech

The inside of the BMW Vision Next 100 Concept is defined by simpler lines. It has no center console, consequently enhancing legroom in both the front and rear compartments. Almost the entire roof is made out of transparent panels that let sunlight into the cockpit area.

We are most likely to find the triangular scale pattern in the cabin, on the dashboard and seats. The levels on the panel are part of the concept’s safety package. They turn red to warn the driver of any imminent hazard. The BMW Vision Next 100 does not come with an instrument cluster. Instead, there is an augmented reality that displays all the data regarding ideal driving line and steering points.

The vehicle focuses on the driver when the Boost Mode is used. This mode offers the support needed to optimize the driving experience. The BMW Vision Next 100 transforms into a self-driving sedan when the Ease Mode is used. In Ease Mode, the headrests turn to the side, the steering wheel retracts, and the door trim and seats merge to create a single unit. Therefore, the front-seat passenger and the driver can turn toward each other.

The BMW did not give any details regarding the materials that will be used throughout the interior. However, the fit and finish appear top notch. It is also evident that there is not even an inch of wood in the interior of this futuristic concept. Perhaps BMW predicts that wood will have no place in the future luxury cars.

Powertrain and Final Thoughts

It is surprising that BMW had nothing to say concerning the concept’s engine. And, this is rather awkward for a study that is supposed to give us a slight hint of the future. We understand that BMW has for the past three decades provided the industry with some of the most astounding and innovative drivetrains. But the lack of details of the BMW Vision Next 100 engine is more surprising.

Sure, it may not be that easy to forecast whatever will power our vehicles a few decades from now. However, the BMW is a premium automaker that had to take risks and provide an innovative solution. Electrification will probably be an exciting way to power cars even 100 years from now. So, it is likely that BMW Vision Next 100 will feature upcoming electric drivetrain and battery technology. Let’s wait and see what will happen in the future.
