Those looking for something more exciting than the tried and true Edge will be delighted to hear that the 2018 Ford Edge Sport is on its way. Even though we constantly hear the words of promises like “sporty”, “dynamic” or “athletic” when it comes to the modern SUVs, very few actually deliver on those promises.
The upcoming Edge Sport is one of those SUVs. In addition to a plethora of exterior and interior enhancement, this trim variant will also bring a new EcoBoost engine, adaptive steering, and a sport-tuned suspension. With these, the Edge Sport looks more than capable of challenging even the fiercest of athletic crossovers.
2018 Ford Edge Sport – Exterior and Interior Tech
The 2018 Ford Edge Sport is distinguished by its wide, squat profile. It also features a strong, yet conservative look, one that emphasizes might and athleticism, not so much class. Starting from the SUV’s front, we can see a massive, trapezoidal grille, sleek new headlights, and a redesigned bumper.
In the back, the vehicle features a sloped rear end, with wraparound taillights that bring a strong feeling of cohesion. As opposed to the standard Edge model, the Edge Sport takes a step further with body-color lower cladding, piano-black grille treatment, and unique exhaust housings. Additional features include a Magnetic Metallic-painted finish around the grille, 19-inch alloy wheels, blacked-out headlamp bezels, and redesigned skid plates.
Interior Styling and Tech
Inside, the 2018 Ford Edge Sport looks and feels pretty much like the standard Edge. It sports the same 2-row, 5-passenger layout and plenty of passenger and cargo space. Due to the sheer size of the cabin, both the driver and the passengers can expect an abundance of legroom and headroom.
The cargo space measures almost 40 cubic feet, and up to 74 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. In general, the Edge Sport’s cabin exudes a fresh and premium feel. It also brings about a sense of athleticism, thanks to the implementation of Mayan Gray seat upholstery and Umber Miko cloth inserts and contrast stitching.
To ensure a higher level of durability and reliability, Ford has decided to ditch adaptive-touch controls and replace them with buttons. These will be mainly used for climate and audio controls. In the tech department, the Edge Sport will feature the latest SYNC 3 system, a 6-speaker sound system, dual-zone climate control, a satellite radio, advanced navigation and more.
Engine Specs and Performance of the 2018 Ford Edge Sport
The 2018 Ford Edge Sport is oriented towards providing a strong performance. Therefore, it is only natural that it sports the most powerful engine in the Edge lineup. This is a 2.7-liter, twin-turbocharged V6, which produces 315 horsepower. It has EPA of 17/24 mpg. With this engine, the Edge Sport will reach a top speed of 132 mph and go from 0 to 62 mph in around 5.5 seconds. The engine will come paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive.
Market Release and Cost
The latest 2018 Ford Edge Sport is expected to hit the stores during the 4th quarter of 2017. Those interested in buying it will have to pay no less than $47.000.
