With the new 2019 Ford Taurus, the American company plans to restart the aging model. Although Taurus was the model that prevented Ford from going bankrupt, it is now on the margins of both Ford’s plans, and the market in general. Since the current generation’s introduction in 2010, there have been a plethora of major innovations and breakthroughs in car design and technology.
While the competition caught up with these, the Taurus, on the other hand, kept lagging behind. With the upcoming Taurus, the Ford aims to step up its game and shake up the market.
2019 Ford Taurus – Improved Design
The previous Taurus models were often criticized for their uninspired body and looks. The new 2019 Ford Taurus will address that criticism by using a brand new lightweight platform and body. These will bring much more aerodynamic features and a vastly improved fuel economy.
The overall design of the 2019 Ford Taurus will be completely overhauled, with striking, aggressive lines and a sleeker, more athletic look. These will give the new Taurus a desperately needed facelift, and make it highly competitive on the market. On the front, the car will get a new and redesigned bumper, grille, and the latest set of headlights.
On the rear, the overall looks will remain quite similar to the previous models and will resemble the Chinese variant of the car. The new Taurus will also ditch the old glasshouse, and replace it with new, larger windows. These will provide a much better field of vision, and add a certain modern flavor.
Changes and new Features Inside
Another criticism of the previous models, was concerned with their limited space and storage options. Even though they were quite bulky on the outside, these models were quite limiting on the inside.
The new 2018 Ford Taurus will offer much more space and comfort, thanks to the new platform, and a wider wheelbase. There will be more legroom and headspace for both the driver and the passengers. The interior of the upcoming Taurus will also feature some new tech, as well. These will include a leather-sewn control panel, a large LCD screen in the center of the dashboard, and a remote electric seat change system.
Other features will include color-coded seats, a Sync 3 navigational system, an Active Park Assist system, and a dual-zone environment control. For infotainment purposes, there will be a 12-speaker Sony stereo and an AM/FM radio.
Under the Hood, Specs and Performance
The upcoming 2019 Ford Taurus will come equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine and a 2.0-liter Eco-Boost engine. The 3.5-liter engine will provide the car with 365 horsepower @ 5.500 rpm, and a max torque of 350 lb-ft. It will come alongside a standard 6-speed automatic transmission and a front-wheel drive.
The Eco-Boost engine will generate around 240 horsepower and 270 lb -ft, and propel the car from 0 to 62 mph, in just 6 seconds. Its fuel efficiency is expected to hover around 18 mpg in city conditions, and 27 mpg in highway conditions.
Market Release and Price of the 2019 Ford Taurus
The new 2019 Ford Taurus will become available for purchase in the second half of 2018. The price for the basic variant will be 28.000$, whereas premium variants will most likely cost more.
