The 2018 Mazda CX-4 is designed to bridge the gap between Mazda’s own models, Mazda 3 and the CX-5. It is built to be bigger, compact, more fuel efficient and sportier. In a nutshell, it is supposed to bring out the best in the two base models. The vehicle sports a new look and a more intense power train.
2018 Mazda CX-4 – Exterior Well Crafted
The first impression is everything, right? Well, true to that, the 2018 Mazda CX-4 exterior is well crafted. Designed to leave an everlasting impression, wherever you drive it. Upfront the vehicle retains its signature angled chrome grille. Flanking the grille on the sides are LED headlights, that are also beautifully designed to take the eye shape of a predator on the hunt.
Small air intakes are located below the headlights, one on either side. The Mazda decided to go for a coupe design for this model, and for what it’s worth, they made a great choice. However, the coupe design gives the SUV an awesome look. Two chrome stripes run down the roof on either side of the sunroof, all the way to the back.
The back is well crafted too, slightly curving outwards, a design that emphasizes the coupe architecture. Characterizing the back are thin backlights and a chrome strip that runs across the back. Blinkers are integrated on the bumper, while two exhaust pipes protrude just below the bumper.
Interior Features and Safety
The interior is flashy but not as luxurious as that of the Koeru. The 2018 Mazda CX-4 features one touch capacitive screen that sits on the dashboard. Just above the two air vents located above the center stack. Mazda is expected to get the latest connectivity technology, offering both Wi-Fi and USB options. Environment control will be a bliss, controlled by latest air conditioning technology. Expect nothing short of high-quality leather for the seats, and talking about seats, the CX-4 can accommodate five passengers in total.
Furthermore, the 2018 Mazda CX-4 is expected to come equipped with some of the latest safety technologies out there. A few being rear view camera, parking sensors and also traction control.
Engine Specs of the 2018 Mazda CX-4
The Mazda will give the CX-4 a choice of three engines. The first one being the same exact engine that is in the CX-5. Which is a 2.0-Liter SkyActiv engine producing 155 horsepower and 203 NM torque. The second variant is a 2.5-liter Sky Active engine producing about 184 horsepower and torque of about 251 NM.
The third variant is a 2.2-liter diesel version. The diesel version comes with a choice of either, 147 horsepower or a 173 horsepower. The power will be channeled by a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission.
Market Hit, Price and Rival
Finally, the 2018 Mazda CX-4 is expected to hit the market around summer. With that said, it is expected to cost anywhere between $22,000-$24,000. Not a bad price for those specs.
The Nissan Qashqai is the best contender here, both in terms of specs and price. However, the Mazda CX-4 is no match for more premium German products.
