The 2018 Renault Capture is the French automaker’s latest foray into the increasingly popular compact crossover market. It is a car that is based on a traditional hatchback design, albeit one that is fairly roomy and tall like an SUV. As a result, the Capture is very easy to control as well as fairly cheap to run.
Since its release in 2013, the Capture has seen a lot of success and great sales. However, the Renault has decided to implement a number of updates and upgrades, so as to offer a refreshed 2018 edition.
2018 Renault Capture – Exterior Look and Changes
Upon its release, the Capture was described essentially as a bloated Clio. This is not surprising since the first Capture was heavily inspired by the popular Clio. However, the 2018 Renault Capture will have its own distinct identity, thanks to a number of exterior updates. Even though these updates might seem minor, they will nevertheless give the Capture a unique SUV personality.
Some of the most notable changes include a reshaped front grille, which now features some additional chrome touches and proudly wears an oversized Renault badge. Elsewhere in the front, we will see a revamped bumper, alongside new, C-shaped LED headlights. The Capture will also come in a variety of custom color configurations, as well. In terms of its dimensions, it will be pretty much the same as the 2017 edition.
Interior Features, Styling and Tech
When it comes to its interior, the 2018 Renault Capture will come with a small number of subtle changes. Generally speaking, all those who have experience with the Renault Clio will find the Capture’s interior extremely familiar. Here, Renault’s focus is not on introducing any mechanical changes. Instead, the French engineers have decided to improve the look and add some class to the Capture’s interior by implementing some high-quality materials.
These include quality leather, soft-touch plastic, and some wood touches. Just like the previous versions, the 2018 Renault Capture will also offer plenty of cargo space, as well as passenger room. This, combined with adjustable seats will ensure lots of comfort for the driver and the passengers. Tech-wise, this SUV will feature a 7-inch touchscreen, Renault’s R-Link System, a DAB radio, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and more.
Engines Specs and Performance
The 2018 Renault Capture will come with a range of engine variants. For starters, we will see a 0.9-liter 3-cylinder gasoline engine, which is capable of producing 88 hp and which will come paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Next up, there is a 1.2-liter 4-cylinder engine with 118 horsepower and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
And finally, there will be two diesel variants, as well. These will be 1.5-liter variants, of which one will produce 88 hp while the other will output 108 hp. While none of these engines will impress with their power, they will surely impress with their fuel efficiency. The gasoline variants will deliver 55 mpg, while the diesel variants will reach a figure of almost 72 mpg.
Release Date, Price and Rivals
According to the latest info, the upcoming 2018 Renault Capture is scheduled to be released during the second half of 2017. Its starting price is not expected to exceed $20.000. The Capture is expected to challenge the Nissan Juke and the Peugeot 2008 for market supremacy.
